Quasar Outdoor Bollard Light - Black

The Quasar is a 960mm-tall outdoor bollard light with a single GU10 fitting housed in a black powder-coated die-cast aluminium post. The lamp head at the top of the post holds a transparent sandblasted tempered glass diffuser that softens the light output and angles it downward toward pathways, driveways and garden borders.

Designed for semi-covered outdoor areas such as patios, terraces, garden pathways and driveway edges, the Quasar carries an IP43 rating for protection against solid objects larger than 1mm and light rain spray. This makes it suitable for locations under eaves, pergolas, or areas with partial shelter, but not fully exposed positions where sustained heavy rain or submersion might occur. The 115mm footprint allows it to be positioned close to path edges without obstructing foot traffic.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion and the powder-coated black finish holds up to UV exposure and temperature variation without flaking. The sandblasted glass diffuser reduces glare from the GU10 bulb inside, spreading softer, more ambient light across a 2-3m radius at ground level depending on bulb wattage. The lamp accepts GU10 bulbs up to the maximum wattage listed in the specification table (sold separately) and is dimmable when paired with dimmable GU10 LEDs and compatible dimmer switches.

Can this be used in fully exposed outdoor areas?

The IP43 rating provides protection against light rain spray and dust but is not designed for sustained heavy rain or water submersion. It suits semi-covered locations such as under eaves, pergolas, or along pathways with partial shelter. For fully exposed positions, consider a higher IP-rated bollard.

What bulb does it take and is it included?

The Quasar takes a single GU10 bulb, sold separately. It accepts halogen or LED GU10 bulbs up to the maximum wattage listed in the specification table. For outdoor use, a warm-white LED GU10 between 3W-7W and 2700K-3000K is recommended.

Is it dimmable?

Yes, the fitting itself supports dimming. To achieve dimming functionality, pair the Quasar with a dimmable GU10 LED bulb and a compatible dimmer switch on the circuit. Non-dimmable GU10 bulbs will not dim and may flicker or fail if used with a dimmer.

How is it installed?

The bollard requires a ground-level base fixing, typically into a paved surface or concrete footing. The cable runs underground to the bollard base. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician to ensure IP-rated cable glands and correct earthing are in place.
