Description
The Porto is a single-light outdoor wall light with a clear glass shade enclosed by a grey powder-coated 304-grade stainless steel frame. The frame wraps around the top and sides of the bulb housing, leaving the front open to direct light forward onto pathways, doorways and porch areas. An E27 bulb fitting sits inside the glass shade (bulb sold separately), accepting standard LED or filament bulbs up to 40W.
Rated IP44, the Porto is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for covered porches, under eaves, doorways and wall-mounted exterior positions where the fitting is not fully exposed to driving rain. The 115mm width and 185mm projection suit standard door frames and porch columns without overwhelming smaller entrance areas.
The 304 stainless steel frame resists corrosion in coastal and high-humidity environments, while the grey powder coat finish softens the metallic tone and pairs with both traditional and modern exterior colour schemes. The clear glass maximises light output rather than diffusing it, making the Porto more effective for task lighting (illuminating steps, locks, house numbers) than for ambient wash lighting. Elstead backs the fitting with a 15-year warranty covering manufacturing defects and finish deterioration under normal outdoor conditions.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does the Porto take?
The Porto uses a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 4-8W and 2700K for outdoor entrance lighting.
Can this be used in fully exposed locations?
The IP44 rating protects against water splashes but not sustained driving rain or submersion. The Porto is best installed under eaves, covered porches, or doorways where it has some overhead shelter. For fully exposed wall positions, consider a higher-rated fitting (IP65 or IP66).
Is the stainless steel suitable for coastal areas?
Yes. The 304-grade stainless steel frame resists salt-air corrosion better than mild steel or aluminium. For properties within direct sea-spray zones (within 100m of breaking waves), periodic cleaning with fresh water helps maintain the finish.
How is the fitting mounted?
The Porto mounts to a standard UK outdoor wall box via a rear backplate. The 185mm projection means the fitting extends approximately 18.5cm from the wall once installed, which should be considered when positioning near door swings or narrow pathways.
