Description

The Poole is an IP44-rated outdoor wall light combining 316 marine-grade stainless steel with Malaysian teak wood accents and a frosted glass diffuser wrapped in horizontal steel bands. A single E27 bulb (up to 40W, sold separately) sits inside the glass cylinder, casting light through the frosted diffuser and between the steel bands.

Designed for exterior mounting on house walls, porch entrances, courtyard walls and covered patio areas where water resistance is needed but full immersion protection is not required, the IP44 rating protects against water splashes from any direction. The 140mm projection from the wall and 280mm height make the fitting suitable for doorways and side passages without protruding too far into walking routes. The brushed stainless steel backplate and arm mount directly to external brickwork or render using standard wall fixings.

The teak accents at the top and bottom of the glass cylinder add warmth against the steel and introduce a natural element into what would otherwise be a fully metallic fitting. Teak weathers to a silvery-grey patina if left untreated, or can be maintained at its original honey-brown tone with annual teak oil application. The frosted glass diffuses the bulb glare while the horizontal steel bands create striped shadow patterns on adjacent walls when the light is on at night.

316 marine-grade stainless steel is the same specification used in coastal and marine environments, offering higher corrosion resistance than standard 304 stainless. The Poole carries a 10-year manufacturer guarantee covering material defects and corrosion failure under normal outdoor use.

What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?

IP44 means the fitting is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm and against water splashes from any direction. It is suitable for covered outdoor areas like porches, eaves and walls under overhangs, but not for fully exposed positions subject to driving rain or direct hose spray.

What bulb should I use?

The Poole takes a standard E27 bulb up to 40W. Most users fit a warm-white LED bulb between 5-8W and 2700K for outdoor entrance lighting. Bulbs are sold separately.

Will the teak weather or need maintenance?

Malaysian teak naturally weathers to a silvery-grey patina when exposed to the elements. To maintain the original honey-brown colour, apply teak oil once or twice per year. If left untreated the wood remains structurally sound but changes colour.

Can this be mounted on a brick wall?

Yes. The stainless steel backplate has mounting holes for fixing to brick, stone or rendered walls using standard wall plugs and screws. The electrical cable feeds through the backplate from a chased-in back box or conduit.
