The Payne is a 319mm flush ceiling light with a polished chrome frame and white opal etched glass diffuser, IP44 rated for safe use in bathrooms and moisture-prone areas. The fitting houses two E27 bulbs (sold separately) behind the opal glass, which softens the light output and eliminates harsh glare. At 143mm projection from the ceiling, it suits rooms with ceiling heights of 2.2-2.4m where a pendant would hang too low.

Designed for bathrooms, hallways, bedrooms and utility rooms, the Payne provides functional overhead lighting without taking up headroom. The IP44 rating means the fitting is protected against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for zones 2 and 3 in a bathroom layout (outside the immediate shower enclosure). The flush mount fixes directly to a ceiling rose with three screws, concealing the wiring behind the backplate.

The polished chrome finish on the metal frame and trim rings gives a high-shine reflective surface that works with both contemporary chrome taps and fittings, and traditional Victorian-style bathrooms where chrome has replaced older brass fixtures. The white opal glass sits between two spun metal rings, one forming the ceiling backplate and one acting as a lower trim ring that frames the glass edge. The 60W maximum per bulb accommodates standard LED bulbs in the 6-10W range, typically providing 800-1,200 lumens total output depending on bulb choice.

What bulbs does it take?

The Payne takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with two warm-white LED bulbs between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for bathroom or hallway lighting.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

Yes. The IP44 rating protects the fitting against splashing water from any direction, making it suitable for bathroom zones 2 and 3 (outside the immediate shower enclosure or above the bath). It is not rated for use inside a shower enclosure itself.

What ceiling height does it need?

The 143mm projection from the ceiling makes this fitting work well in rooms with ceiling heights of 2.2-2.4m, where a pendant would hang too low or create headroom issues. In rooms with higher ceilings, a semi-flush or pendant may provide better light distribution.

How is the glass diffuser cleaned?

The lower trim ring unscrews to release the opal glass diffuser for cleaning. Wipe the glass with a damp microfibre cloth and dry before reassembling. Switch off the mains power before removing the glass.
