The Opus is a cylindrical outdoor wall light with a die-cast aluminium body finished in anthracite grey, housing transparent Pyrex glass diffusers at the top and bottom that direct light both upwards and downwards from a single G9 bulb. The IP54 rating protects against dust ingress and water splashes from any direction, making the fitting suitable for UK gardens, patios, building facades and porch areas exposed to rain.

Designed for entrance areas, pathway lighting and architectural accent on external walls, the Opus casts light onto the wall surface above and below the fitting rather than projecting forward into the space. This creates a grazing effect on textured brick or render and provides orientation lighting without glare at eye level. The 110mm diameter and 110mm projection keep the fitting compact enough for narrow walkways and side passages where larger fittings would obstruct movement.

The die-cast aluminium construction resists corrosion in coastal and urban environments where painted steel fittings often fail within a few years. The anthracite finish is a mid-tone grey that sits between black and silver, pairing comfortably with dark timber cladding, grey render, natural stone and brick without creating stark contrast. The Pyrex glass diffusers are heat-resistant borosilicate glass, harder and more thermally stable than standard soda-lime glass, which reduces the risk of thermal shock cracking in cold weather after the bulb has been on.

The fitting is dimmable when paired with a compatible G9 LED bulb and a trailing-edge dimmer on the circuit. Most installers use a warm-white G9 LED between 2W and 4W for domestic installations, which provides sufficient up-and-down wash without overwhelming small courtyards or narrow side returns.

What does the IP54 rating mean?

IP54 means the fitting is dust-protected (first digit 5) and splash-proof from any direction (second digit 4). It can handle rain, hose spray during garden maintenance and windblown moisture, but is not submersion-proof. IP54 is sufficient for most UK outdoor wall-mounted fittings that are not installed in ground-level recesses or poolside positions.

Does it come with a bulb?

No. The Opus requires one G9 bulb, sold separately. Most users pair it with a 2-4W G9 LED in warm white (2700K-3000K). Check the bulb wattage does not exceed the maximum rating shown on the fitting's label inside the enclosure.

Can it be installed under a porch overhang?

Yes. The IP54 rating handles exposed positions, but the fitting also works well under covered porches, canopies and eaves where it is shielded from direct rain. The up-and-down light distribution works particularly well on covered walkways where it lights both the soffit above and the ground below.

Is it compatible with dimmer switches?

The fitting itself is dimmable, but dimming performance depends on the G9 bulb you install. Use a dimmable G9 LED bulb and pair it with a trailing-edge dimmer on the circuit. Non-dimmable LEDs may flicker or fail prematurely on a dimmed circuit.
