Description

The Nocturne is an in-line sensor switch that fits between a mains power cord and an LED lighting fixture, adding motion-activated control to lamps, under-cabinet lighting, shelf lighting and display lighting without requiring wall switches or permanent wiring changes. The 86mm white plastic housing sits inline on the cable run, detecting movement within a detection zone to turn the connected fixture on and off automatically.

Designed for retrofit applications where adding a wall-mounted PIR sensor is impractical, the Nocturne suits temporary installations, rented properties, workshops, storage rooms and wardrobes where cable-based control provides flexibility. The switch connects via standard UK power cord fittings at both ends, allowing it to be inserted into an existing cable run between a plug and a fixture without tools. The 16.5mm profile keeps the switch discreet when placed behind furniture, under cabinets or along skirting boards.

The sensor offers dimmable control, meaning it can be paired with dimmable LED fixtures to provide both motion activation and adjustable brightness. The white plastic housing blends against white or light-coloured walls and surfaces, and the compact footprint allows the switch to be positioned where cable routing permits rather than where a wall box would dictate. The 5-year warranty covers the sensor mechanism and control electronics.

Frequently Asked

How does the sensor detect motion?

The Nocturne uses passive infrared (PIR) detection to sense movement within its detection zone. When motion is detected, the switch closes the circuit and powers the connected fixture. The exact detection range and sensitivity depend on the sensor's positioning along the cable run and the fixture's location.

Can it be used with any LED fixture?

The switch is compatible with most LED fixtures that accept standard mains input. For dimmable control to function, the connected LED fixture must also be rated as dimmable. Check the fixture's specifications before pairing with the Nocturne if dimming capability is required.

Where is the switch positioned on the cable?

The Nocturne sits in-line between the power source and the fixture, typically within 1-2m of the fixture itself to ensure the sensor's detection zone covers the area where motion activation is needed. The cable routing determines exact placement.

Is it suitable for outdoor use?

The white plastic housing carries no IP rating in the specification provided, suggesting it is designed for indoor dry-location use. For outdoor or damp-location applications, contact us to confirm environmental suitability before installation.
