Description
The Newbury is a 570mm tall outdoor pedestal light with two E14 candle bulbs housed inside bevelled glass panels, topped with a lacquered polished brass frame and finial. The brass is lacquered to maintain its high shine in outdoor conditions, requiring no polishing to retain the warm gold tone. The bevelled glass panels sit inside a brass cage formed of curved vertical bars and horizontal bands, creating a traditional lantern profile that suits entrance pillars, gate posts and driveway columns.
Designed for outdoor installation on flat surfaces or brick/stone pillars, the Newbury mounts via a base plate on the underside and requires a weatherproof cable entry through the pillar or post below. The IP44 rating protects against water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for exposed positions on driveways, front gardens and courtyard entrances where rain and wet weather are regular. The two E14 bulbs (sold separately) are visible through the clear glass, so decorative filament or candle-flame LED bulbs work well to enhance the traditional aesthetic.
The 264mm width keeps the Newbury compact enough for standard brick pillar caps (typically 300-450mm square) without overhanging the edges, while the 570mm height gives visibility from the road without dominating the pillar itself. The lacquered brass finish pairs with Victorian, Edwardian and traditional red-brick or rendered properties, and the polished tone works where warmer metallic accents are preferred over black or antique finishes. The bevelled edge on the glass creates prismatic reflections when lit, softening the light spread and adding visual texture to the fixture after dark.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Newbury take?
The fitting takes two E14 (small Edison screw) candle bulbs up to 60W maximum combined. Bulbs are sold separately. Most installations use two 4-6W LED candle bulbs in warm white (2700K) or decorative LED filament candles to suit the traditional lantern style.
Is the brass finish weather-resistant?
Yes. The polished brass is lacquered to protect against tarnishing and oxidation in outdoor conditions. The lacquer maintains the bright gold tone without requiring polishing. Over years of UV exposure the lacquer may fade slightly, but the brass underneath remains protected.
What pillar size does it suit?
The 264mm width suits standard brick pillar caps between 300-450mm square. The base plate mounts flush to the pillar top, with cable entry through the pillar below. For narrower pillars or posts under 300mm, the fixture may overhang the edges.
Can it be used on a flat surface like a driveway bollard?
Yes. The base plate can be surface-mounted to a flat pedestal or bollard, provided there is a weatherproof cable entry point through the base. The IP44 rating protects the fitting in exposed positions but does not waterproof the cable entry — that must be sealed correctly during installation.
