Description

The Newbury is a 264mm outdoor chain lantern finished in lacquered aged copper with clear bevelled glass panels and two E14 candle bulbs inside a traditional carriage-style frame. The pendant hangs from a chain with 1200mm length, adjustable on installation to suit ceiling heights from 1.5m to 2.2m above ground, and the lacquered finish protects the copper from accelerated weathering while retaining the aged patina.

Designed for covered outdoor areas — front porches, rear entrance canopies, pergolas with roof cover, and courtyard archways — the IP23 rating protects against vertically falling rain and small solid objects. The lantern cannot be used in fully exposed positions where wind-driven rain hits the glass from horizontal angles. The 264mm width and 497mm height suit single-door entrances, narrow side gates, and smaller covered spaces where a full 300mm+ lantern would be disproportionate.

The bevelled glass panels sit within a curved copper frame shaped like a traditional coach lantern, with a decorative copper finial at the top and a turned copper base below the glass. Each E14 bulb (sold separately) is visible through the glass as a candle flame, so filament-style bulbs work better than frosted LEDs for maintaining the period aesthetic. The aged copper finish shows darker tonal variation and subtle verdigris hints where the lacquer deliberately allows controlled oxidation.

Does the copper continue to age after installation?
