Description
The Quoizel Newbury is a 311mm outdoor wall lantern in lacquered aged copper with clear bevelled glass panels surrounding a single E27 bulb fitting. A curved copper arm extends from an angled backplate, suspending a hexagonal lantern cage with bevelled glass on all six sides. The IP44 rating protects against rain splash and moisture, allowing the fitting to be mounted on porches, house fronts, garage sides and covered outdoor spaces.
Designed for traditional and period-style homes, the Newbury suits front doors, side entrances, and porch lighting where a compact fitting is needed that reads as a carriage-style lantern rather than a modern spotlight. The 311mm height and 169mm projection fit narrow wall sections without overwhelming a typical front door surround. The lacquered aged copper finish mimics the tonal variation of naturally weathered copper, with darker accents in the recesses and highlights on raised surfaces.
The bevelled glass panels provide a clear view of the bulb inside, so pairing the lantern with a decorative LED filament bulb (sold separately) adds to the period aesthetic. The lacquer coating stabilises the copper finish, slowing the natural patina development that occurs with unlacquered copper fittings. The E27 bulb fitting accepts standard LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W, giving flexibility in choosing light colour and brightness to suit the installation.

Frequently Asked
What does IP44 mean for outdoor use?
IP44 provides protection against rain splash and moisture from any direction, but not heavy driving rain or submersion. The Newbury is suitable for covered porches, house fronts under eaves, and wall positions that do not face directly into prevailing rain. It is not suitable for fully exposed positions with no overhead cover.
What bulb should I use?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to match the period aesthetic of the copper and glass cage.
Will the copper finish change over time?
The lacquer coating slows the natural patina development, but over several years outdoor exposure may still cause some tonal shift towards a darker, mottled finish. This is a characteristic of copper-finished outdoor fittings and adds to the period character rather than being a defect.
What wall fixing is needed?
The backplate has mounting holes for wall plugs and screws into brick, render or timber. If mounting onto a vinyl or UPVC surface, use appropriate fixings rated for the combined weight of the lantern and any wind load in exposed positions.
