Description
The Lunar is a 450mm outdoor wall light with two E27 sockets housed in a die-cast aluminium body finished in anthracite, rated IP55 for protection against dust and water jets. Light emits through top and bottom satin-finished Pyrex glass diffusers, distributing output both upwards and downwards from a single wall-mounted fitting.
Designed for residential and commercial exterior installation, the Lunar suits entrance porches, garage sides, garden walls and courtyard pathways where ambient light is needed from both sides of the fitting. The dual-output design reduces the need for multiple fittings where wall space allows a single larger piece. The 80mm projection from the wall keeps the fitting compact while providing adequate clearance for the E27 bulbs (sold separately) behind the Pyrex diffusers.
The die-cast aluminium construction provides structural rigidity and corrosion resistance in UK outdoor conditions, while the powder-coated anthracite finish offers a neutral dark grey tone that pairs with brick, render, stone and timber cladding. The satin Pyrex diffusers soften the light output and reduce glare when viewed directly, making the fitting suitable for positions at eye level on walls around 1.5-2m high.
Each E27 socket accepts bulbs up to 60W (most users fit 8-12W LED bulbs for equivalent output with lower running costs). The fitting is dimmable when paired with dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch. The IP55 rating confirms the fitting resists UK rain, hose-down cleaning and coastal salt spray, though it is not submersible.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Lunar take?
The fitting takes two E27 (Edison screw) bulbs up to 60W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit 8-12W LED bulbs in warm white (2700K-3000K) for outdoor ambient lighting with low running costs.
Is it suitable for coastal locations?
The IP55 rating and die-cast aluminium construction provide good resistance to salt spray and coastal weather. However, Ideal Lux recommend annual inspection and cleaning in coastal locations to remove salt deposits before they affect the finish.
Can it be mounted vertically or horizontally?
The Lunar is designed for horizontal mounting on vertical walls, with the two diffusers emitting light upwards and downwards. Mounting it vertically would direct light sideways rather than up/down, which is less effective for most outdoor applications.
How is it installed?
The fitting mounts to a standard outdoor electrical back box via two fixing points on the rear plate. The cable feeds through a gland in the back of the die-cast housing. Installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician and comply with BS 7671 wiring regulations.
