Description
The Lambeth Palace is a single-light outdoor wall lantern constructed from solid brass with a verdigris patina finish, inspired by pre-Georgian British lighting. The lantern body measures 270mm high by 180mm wide with a 130mm projection from the wall, housing a single E27 bulb behind clear glass panes. A hinged front door allows access to the lamp holder without removing the entire fitting from the wall.
Designed for entrances, porch areas and garden pathway lighting on traditional and heritage-style properties, the lantern carries an IP44 rating for protection against splashes and solid objects over 1mm. This makes it suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under eaves, within recessed porches, or on walls shielded by overhangs. The clear glass panes allow the full light output from the E27 bulb to project forward, useful for illuminating paths and doorsteps.
The verdigris finish replicates the natural oxidisation that occurs on copper and brass exposed to weathering over decades, giving the lantern an aged appearance from installation. The solid brass construction beneath the finish develops its own patina over time as the lacquered surface weathers, adding further character. The lattice ventilation at the top of the lantern allows heat from the bulb to escape while maintaining the IP44 seal on the main chamber.
Elstead Lighting produces the Lambeth Palace range in the UK and backs the fitting with a lifetime guarantee against manufacturing defects. The solid brass construction and hand-applied finish give each lantern slight tonal variation in the verdigris colour, so no two pieces appear identical when installed side by side.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb, sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED filament bulb between 4-8W and 2200K-2700K to replicate traditional gas lamp light. The IP44 rating allows standard E27 LEDs or incandescent bulbs up to 60W.
Can it be used in fully exposed positions?
The IP44 rating provides protection against splashes and dust, making the lantern suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under eaves, within porches, or on walls with overhead protection. Fully exposed positions facing driving rain may require an IP54 or IP65 rated fitting instead.
How is the bulb changed?
The front glass panel is mounted on a hinged door. Release the catch on the side of the lantern and swing the door open to access the E27 lamp holder. The door closes securely to maintain the IP44 seal once the bulb is replaced.
Will the verdigris finish change over time?
Yes. The lacquered verdigris finish will weather gradually, and the solid brass beneath will develop its own natural patina as the lacquer breaks down. This is a characteristic of the material rather than a defect, and contributes to the aged appearance the range is designed to achieve.
