Description
The Knightsbridge Torlan is a 5ft (1563mm) non-corrosive batten fitting built from anti-corrosive polycarbonate with an IP65 weatherproof rating and IK08 impact resistance. Internal switches allow selection between 26W (4,045lm at 4000K) or 48W (7,250lm at 4000K) output and between 3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white or 5700K daylight colour temperatures. A microwave sensor provides adjustable motion detection, and a LiFePO4 battery powers 3-hour self-test emergency lighting in maintained, non-maintained or switched modes.
Designed for commercial, industrial and outdoor applications where both weatherproofing and impact resistance are required — warehouses, car parks, loading bays, covered walkways, agricultural buildings and coastal installations. The fitting can be surface-mounted directly to ceilings or walls, or suspension-mounted using optional accessories. The polycarbonate construction resists corrosion in damp or salt-air environments where traditional steel housings would deteriorate, and the stainless steel diffuser clips maintain secure fitting over the product's operational life.
The selectable wattage and CCT reduce stocking complexity for installers and stockists by consolidating multiple SKU variants into a single fitting that can be configured on-site to match the application. At 4000K the 48W setting delivers up to 155lm/W efficiency and a 140-degree beam angle for wide-area coverage. The opal diffuser softens the light output while the SMD LED array is rated to L70B50 60,000 hours. The grey polycarbonate housing measures 90mm wide by 90mm deep, giving a low-profile cross-section suitable for locations with headroom constraints.
The emergency mode provides 320lm output during mains failure and the self-test functionality monitors battery health automatically, eliminating manual testing schedules required under BS 5266 for commercial premises. The microwave sensor's detection range and hold time are adjustable via internal controls, allowing the fitting to function as daylight-running task lighting with automatic shutdown during unoccupied periods.

Frequently Asked
How do you select the wattage and colour temperature?
Internal DIP switches on the driver housing allow selection between 26W and 48W output and between 3000K, 4000K and 5700K colour temperatures. The switches are accessed by removing the diffuser and are set during installation before the fitting is powered on.
What does IP65 and IK08 mean for installation?
IP65 means the fitting is protected against dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction, making it suitable for outdoor use, damp locations and pressure-washing environments. IK08 indicates resistance to 5 joules of impact energy, equivalent to a 1.7kg mass dropped from 300mm.
Does the emergency lighting require manual testing?
No. The fitting includes self-test emergency functionality that automatically monitors battery health and charge status. This eliminates the need for manual monthly and annual testing schedules required under BS 5266 for non-self-test emergency fittings in commercial premises.
How is the microwave sensor adjusted?
Detection range and hold time are adjusted via potentiometers on the sensor module, accessible when the diffuser is removed. The sensor can be configured to detect movement within a range of approximately 8-12 metres depending on mounting height, and the hold time can be set from a few seconds to several minutes.
