Description

The Knightsbridge Torlan is a 4ft (1263mm) anti-corrosive batten light with selectable wattage (19W or 37W), selectable colour temperature (3000K, 4000K or 5700K), integrated 3-hour emergency backup, and a fully adjustable microwave sensor. The housing is polycarbonate with an IP65 weatherproof rating, an IK08 impact rating, and stainless steel diffuser clips, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor commercial, industrial and agricultural environments.

Designed for warehouses, car parks, agricultural buildings, workshops, cold stores and covered external walkways, the Torlan combines traditionally separate single and twin outputs into one slimline housing that can be surface-mounted or suspension-mounted (suspension kit sold separately). Wattage and colour temperature are selected via internal switches during installation, allowing one SKU to cover multiple application requirements without stocking separate variants for each CCT or wattage combination.

At 4000K, the 19W setting delivers 3,015 lumens (159 lm/W) and the 37W setting delivers 5,550 lumens (150 lm/W). The emergency function provides 340 lumens for 3 hours using a LiFePO4 battery, and can be configured as maintained, non-maintained or switched. The microwave sensor adjusts sensitivity and hold time on-site, allowing the fitting to act as presence-activated task lighting in low-traffic areas. The Class I fitting operates on 230V 50Hz mains and carries a 5-year warranty (battery excluded).

The polycarbonate construction resists corrosion in damp, marine and chemical environments where metal housings would degrade. The opal polycarbonate diffuser provides 115-degree beam spread and CRI >85, giving uniform general illumination without visible LED hotspots. The 90mm square profile allows the batten to sit close to the ceiling or soffit without protruding into headroom.

How do I select the wattage and colour temperature?

Both wattage (19W or 37W) and colour temperature (3000K, 4000K or 5700K) are selected via internal DIP switches accessible when the diffuser is removed before installation. This allows a single fitting to be configured for different applications on-site without stocking multiple SKUs.

What is the difference between maintained, non-maintained and switched emergency modes?

Maintained mode keeps the emergency lamp lit continuously, drawing from mains power, and switches to battery during a power cut. Non-maintained mode only lights the emergency lamp during a power cut. Switched mode allows the emergency lamp to be controlled by a wall switch during normal operation but activates automatically during a mains failure.

Can the microwave sensor be disabled?

Yes. The sensor sensitivity and hold time are adjustable via controls accessible inside the housing. Setting sensitivity to minimum or disconnecting the sensor during installation effectively disables presence detection, making the fitting operate as standard mains-powered illumination.

Is the IP65 rating suitable for outdoor use?

Yes. IP65 provides protection against water jets from any direction, making the Torlan suitable for covered outdoor areas such as canopies, loading bays, covered walkways and external building soffits. It is not designed for full exposure to driving rain without overhead cover.
