Description
The Knightsbridge 4ft LED emergency batten offers selectable wattage (18W or 32W) and three colour temperatures (3000K warm white, 4000K neutral white, 5700K cool white) via switches on the hinged gear tray. At 32W and 4000K the batten delivers 4490 lumens across a 145-degree beam angle through an opal polycarbonate diffuser. A lithium battery provides maintained, non-maintained or switched emergency operation for a minimum of 3 hours at 320 lumens.
Designed as a direct replacement for 4ft fluorescent tube battens in commercial, industrial and multi-residential applications, the fitting measures 1225mm long by 61mm wide with a 71mm projection from ceiling or wall. Pressed steel construction with rear and end conduit fixing points allows installation on standard 600mm joist centres or BESA boxes. Push-fit loop-in/loop-out terminals on the hinged gear tray simplify wiring where multiple battens are installed in series, eliminating the need for external junction boxes.
The white powder-coated steel body and opal diffuser deliver even light distribution with minimal glare, making the batten suitable for workshops, warehouses, plant rooms, corridors and back-of-house areas where functional lighting and emergency compliance are required. The adjustable wattage allows the output to be reduced to 18W (2600 lumens at 4000K) in smaller spaces or where lower light levels are acceptable, reducing energy consumption without changing the fitting. At 32W the efficacy reaches 159 lumens per watt, and the LED array carries a 60,000-hour L70B50 rating.
The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor environments. The 5-year warranty excludes the battery, which requires periodic replacement in line with BS 5266 emergency lighting maintenance standards. The Class I fitting requires earthing and connects to 230V 50Hz mains via the hinged gear tray.

Frequently Asked
How do I change the wattage and colour temperature?
The hinged gear tray on the fitting carries DIP switches that select between 18W and 32W output and between 3000K, 4000K and 5700K colour temperatures. These are set during installation before the diffuser is closed and the fitting is energised.
What emergency modes are available?
The batten can be configured for maintained (always lit, switches to battery on power loss), non-maintained (only lit during power loss), or switched maintained (controlled by a switch during normal operation, battery backup on power loss). Mode selection is via switches on the gear tray.
Is it suitable for damp or outdoor locations?
No. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor environments. For damp areas such as covered loading bays or unheated storerooms, a higher IP-rated emergency batten is required.
How long does the emergency battery last?
The lithium battery provides a minimum 3-hour emergency duration at 320 lumens. Battery life depends on use frequency and ambient temperature. BS 5266 requires periodic battery testing and replacement as part of emergency lighting maintenance schedules.
