Description
The Kerry is a 440mm outdoor pedestal light built from corrosion-proof black polymer with four transparent polycarbonate panels surrounding a single E27 bulb fitting. The IP44 rating provides protection from solid objects over 1mm and splashing water from any direction, making the fitting suitable for exposed gate posts, driveway pillars, and porch entrances where rain and coastal salt spray are factors.
Designed for pedestal mounting on brick pillars, rendered posts or flat gate-top surfaces, the Kerry sits on a stepped square base with fixings accessible from underneath. The traditional coach lantern silhouette with tiered black canopy and finial top suits period properties, Victorian-style terraces, and cottage exteriors where a classical outdoor light is needed. The transparent polycarbonate diffuses the E27 bulb output across all four sides, providing 360-degree light distribution around gate posts and pathway markers.
The black polymer construction resists rust, verdigris and UV degradation better than painted die-cast metal equivalents in coastal and high-rainfall climates. The material withstands impact from garden equipment and accidental knocks without denting or chipping. Each panel can be removed individually for bulb replacement or cleaning without disturbing the mounting fixings. The fitting accepts any standard E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 60W (sold separately), allowing choice of warm white, cool white or amber-toned output depending on the property's exterior palette.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 protection means the fitting is sealed against solid objects larger than 1mm (including insects and windblown sand) and water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for exposed positions like gate posts and porch canopies where rain hits the fitting directly, but not for ground-level installation where standing water might pool around the base.
How is the Kerry mounted to a post or pillar?
The fitting has a square base with fixing holes accessible from underneath. It mounts onto flat-topped brick pillars, rendered posts or timber gate posts using screws or bolts. The electrical cable enters through the base of the fitting, so the post or pillar needs a pre-drilled cable route to the mains supply.
What bulb should I use?
The E27 socket accepts any standard screw bulb up to 60W. For outdoor path lighting, a warm white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K gives good visibility without harsh glare. For decorative accent lighting on a porch or gate post, an amber-toned filament-style LED creates a welcoming glow.
Does the polymer material fade or discolour over time?
The black polymer is UV-stabilised to resist fading and chalking under direct sunlight. In coastal areas with high salt exposure, the material performs better than powder-coated aluminium or painted steel, which can corrode beneath the finish. The 20-year warranty from Elstead Lighting covers material degradation.
