Description

The Hoop Medium is an 85mm round surface-mounted downlight with a black aluminium cylinder body and a GX53 bulb fitting recessed inside. The cylindrical housing projects 96mm below the ceiling, directing light downward through a frosted plastic diffuser at the base. The downlight is designed for direct ceiling fixing without requiring a recessed void or back box, making it suitable for solid ceilings and retrofit installations where cutting into the ceiling structure is not practical.

Designed for hallways, compact kitchens, cloakrooms, and low-ceiling spaces where recessed downlights cannot be fitted, the Hoop mounts directly onto the ceiling surface via a base plate fixed with two screws. The GX53 bulb sits inside the cylinder and is accessible by rotating the diffuser ring to remove it. The compact 85mm diameter footprint allows multiple fittings to be spaced in a line along a corridor or hallway without overwhelming the ceiling plane.

The black aluminium body has a powder-coated matt finish that sits flush with the ceiling and provides a defined circular outline when viewed from below. The frosted plastic diffuser softens the light output and prevents glare from the GX53 bulb when walking underneath. The fitting carries an IP20 rating, limiting it to dry indoor locations. The maximum 15W bulb load suits standard GX53 LED bulbs between 7-12W, which provide 500-900 lumens depending on the bulb selected.

What bulb does the Hoop Medium take?

The downlight takes a GX53 bulb up to 15W maximum. GX53 bulbs have a flat disc profile with two pins on the back that twist-lock into the fitting. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a 7-10W LED GX53 bulb in 3000K warm white for hallway and kitchen use.

Can it be used in bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating limits the Hoop to dry indoor locations only. Bathrooms require a minimum IP44 rating for zones 2 and 3, and IP65 for zones 0 and 1. This fitting is not suitable for any bathroom zone.

How is the bulb changed?

The frosted diffuser ring at the base of the cylinder rotates anti-clockwise to release and drop down, exposing the GX53 bulb socket. The bulb itself is removed by pushing it gently upward and rotating anti-clockwise to unlock the two pins from the socket.

Is it suitable for low ceilings?

Yes. The 96mm projection below the ceiling is compact enough for rooms with ceiling heights of 2.2-2.4m. The downlight directs light downward rather than outward, reducing the risk of glare when walking underneath in low-ceiling spaces.
