Description
The Holborn is a solid brass outdoor wall light with two E14 candle bulb fittings behind clear glass panels, finished in dark bronze. The box-style lantern frame measures 310mm high by 255mm wide with a 110mm projection from the wall, and carries an IP44 rating for protection against rain and splashing water. The glass panels are set into the brass frame on all four sides, with vertical fluting detail along the top edge of the lantern box.
Designed for external doorways, covered porches, garage entrances and garden walls where traditional architecture calls for period-appropriate fittings, the Holborn provides light through all four glass sides rather than just downward. The twin E14 bulbs (sold separately) sit inside the glass enclosure on vertical lamp holders, giving the lantern a candle-like appearance when lit. The IP44 rating makes the fitting suitable for exposed positions under eaves or canopies, though not for fully open locations subject to driving rain.
The dark bronze finish is applied over the solid brass construction, giving a warm brown-grey tone that weathers naturally over time in outdoor conditions. The brass itself resists corrosion, and the finish provides additional environmental protection while maintaining the Georgian-style aesthetic. The 255mm width suits standard door surrounds and pillar positions without overwhelming typical residential entrance proportions, and the 110mm projection clears most door casings and wall-mounted rainwater pipes.

Frequently Asked
What bulbs does the Holborn take?
The Holborn uses two E14 small Edison screw bulbs, each up to 40W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with warm-white LED candle bulbs between 4-6W and 2700K for a traditional appearance and lower running costs.
Can this be used in fully exposed positions?
The IP44 rating protects against splashing water and solid objects above 1mm, making the fitting suitable for covered porches, door canopies and positions under eaves. It is not rated for fully open locations subject to sustained heavy rain or water jets.
How is the dark bronze finish maintained?
The dark bronze finish over solid brass is designed to weather naturally outdoors. For cleaning, wipe with a soft damp cloth and dry immediately. Avoid abrasive cleaners or polishes that could remove the finish layer. The brass underneath will resist corrosion even if the finish patinas over time.
What fixing method does it use?
The Holborn mounts to a standard UK outdoor lighting back box via a rear mounting plate. The fitting conceals the wall fixings once installed. Check that the wall can support the weight of the solid brass construction before fitting.
