Description

The Hive is a 500mm drum pendant light with a black fabric shade wrapped around a gold PVC inner lining, suspended from a matt black painted metal frame on three steel cables. Four E27 bulb fittings inside the drum provide direct downward light through the base aperture and indirect upward light into the ceiling void, while the gold interior reflects warm tones back through the black fabric.

Designed for dining tables, kitchen islands and central living room positions where both task and ambient light are needed, the Hive sits 280mm tall (shade body only, excluding suspension cables). The 500mm diameter makes it suitable for tables up to 1.6m long or kitchen islands where the pendant is the primary light source. The pendant is dimmable when paired with suitable E27 dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch, allowing output to be adjusted from full brightness for meal preparation to lower levels for dining.

The black fabric outer diffuses light while the gold PVC inner acts as a reflector, creating contrast between the dark external appearance and the warm glow visible from below and through the weave of the fabric. The matt black frame and canopy sit flush with dark ceilings or provide contrast against white ceilings. The shade body is rigid rather than collapsible, maintaining a clean drum profile without sagging.

Ideal Lux manufactures the Hive in Italy and backs it with a 5-year warranty. The IP20 rating limits it to dry indoor use — not suitable for bathrooms or outdoor covered areas with moisture exposure.
