Description

The Halmstad medium bollard combines a treated pine wood column with galvanised steel top and base sections, standing 490mm high with a 120mm square footprint. An E27 socket behind an opal polycarbonate diffuser casts downward and lateral light through horizontal steel grilles that wrap around the top section. The IP65 rating protects internal components against dust ingress and water jets, making the bollard suitable for coastal installations where salt spray and rain are constant factors.

Designed for pathway, driveway and garden perimeter use, the bollard mounts to a concrete footing or paved surface using the base plate fixings. The 490mm height sits below typical eye level when standing, directing light downwards onto path surfaces rather than into sight lines. The natural wood grain shows through a clear protective treatment that slows UV degradation and moisture absorption, while the galvanised steel resists corrosion in wet climates. Spacing bollards 3-4m apart along a pathway provides continuous illumination without over-lighting.

The treated pine accepts an E27 bulb up to 60W (sold separately), allowing choice of LED wattage, colour temperature and beam angle to suit the application. A 6-8W warm LED (2700K-3000K) provides functional path lighting without glare, while a higher-output 12-15W bulb suits driveways where vehicle access needs clearer ground illumination. The opal diffuser softens the light output and prevents direct bulb visibility, reducing harsh shadows and glare when approaching the bollard from any direction.

Frequently Asked

Is the Halmstad suitable for coastal locations?

Yes. The IP65 rating protects against water jets and salt spray, and the galvanised steel finish resists corrosion in coastal climates. The treated pine slows moisture absorption but will weather over time, developing a silver-grey patina typical of exterior softwood.

What bulb is recommended?

The E27 socket accepts bulbs up to 60W. A 6-8W warm LED (2700K-3000K) provides typical pathway illumination. For driveways or areas needing brighter ground visibility, a 12-15W LED works within the 60W maximum rating.

How is it installed?

The bollard mounts via the base plate to a concrete footing or paved surface using fixings appropriate to the substrate. Cable entry is through the base. Installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician in compliance with UK outdoor electrical wiring regulations.

How far apart should bollards be spaced?

For continuous path lighting, space bollards 3-4m apart. Closer spacing (2-3m) suits narrower paths or where higher illumination levels are needed. Wider spacing (4-5m) works for low-traffic garden paths where ambient rather than functional light is sufficient.
