Description

The Finny is a 12cm square recessed downlight with a white plaster (gypsum) finish and a single GU10 bulb fitting at the centre. The plaster frame sits flush with the ceiling once installed, leaving only the reflector and bulb holder visible, which keeps the visual profile minimal in rooms with low ceilings or where a clean finish is needed.

Designed for hallways, bathrooms (within IP20 zones), kitchens and living spaces where recessed lighting is preferred over surface-mounted fittings, the Finny works as general room lighting when installed in multiples or as accent lighting above alcoves, artwork and architectural features. The 120mm square footprint and 45mm recess depth fit standard ceiling voids in most residential and commercial installations. The plaster material can be painted to match the ceiling colour, making the fitting almost invisible when not lit.

The GU10 fitting accepts any standard GU10 LED, halogen or retrofit bulb (sold separately) up to the manufacturer's maximum wattage. Dimmer compatibility depends on the specific GU10 bulb chosen — most LED GU10 bulbs rated as 'dimmable' will work with trailing-edge dimmers. The white plaster finish provides a neutral base that suits modern, minimalist and traditional interiors without adding decorative detail or colour contrast to the ceiling plane.

Frequently Asked

What bulb does it take?

The Finny takes a standard GU10 bulb (sold separately). Most users pair this with a GU10 LED between 3-7W and 3000K-4000K for general room lighting. Halogen GU10 bulbs also fit but run hotter and consume more energy.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

The IP20 rating means the Finny is suitable for bathroom zones outside the immediate shower/bath areas. In UK bathrooms, IP20 fittings can be installed in Zone 3 (more than 600mm from water sources). For zones closer to water, a higher IP-rated fitting is required.

Can the plaster frame be painted?

Yes. The white plaster finish is paintable, allowing the frame to be matched to the ceiling colour. Use standard emulsion or ceiling paint and allow the fitting to dry fully before installing the bulb.

What ceiling void depth is needed?

The 45mm recess depth requires at least 50mm of clear ceiling void above the plasterboard. Most residential ceilings with joists or a suspended grid provide enough space, but shallow voids may need alternative fittings.
