Description
The ESP Duceri is a 5W LED non-maintained emergency downlight kit comprising a white aluminium bezel, LED module, battery pack and driver unit designed for recessed ceiling installation. The fitting produces 214 lumens of 5500K daylight-white light when mains power fails, drawing from a 4.8V 3500mAh Ni-Cd battery that provides 3 hours of emergency duration.
Non-maintained operation means the light only activates during mains failure, making it suitable for corridors, escape routes, stairwells and communal areas where permanent illumination is provided by separate fittings and emergency lighting is required only during power cuts or evacuations. A green LED indicator on the bezel shows charging status when mains power is present. The recessed format suits standard ceiling voids and gives a flush finish once installed.
The kit includes integral charge and discharge protection circuitry to extend battery life and prevent over-discharge damage. The aluminium bezel measures approximately 90mm diameter with a white powder-coated finish that blends into white or light-coloured ceilings. The IP20 rating makes the fitting suitable for dry indoor environments and the unit meets BS EN 60598-2-22 emergency lighting standards for safety-critical installations.
Installation requires mains connection to charge the battery and a suitable ceiling void depth to accommodate the battery pack and driver unit behind the bezel. The 5500K colour temperature provides a cool, clinical light that matches typical office and public-building lighting schemes during normal operation, making the emergency light colour consistent with the ambient scheme during evacuations.

Frequently Asked
What's the difference between non-maintained and maintained emergency lighting?
Non-maintained emergency lights only activate when mains power fails. Maintained emergency lights stay on continuously during normal operation and remain lit during mains failure. The Duceri is non-maintained, so it only illuminates during power cuts or when switched to emergency mode via a test key.
How long does the battery take to charge?
The 4.8V 3500mAh Ni-Cd battery charges from mains power when the fitting is connected. A full recharge typically takes 24 hours after a 3-hour discharge. The green LED indicator shows charging status.
What ceiling void depth is needed for installation?
The battery pack and driver unit sit behind the bezel in the ceiling void. A minimum void depth of approximately 100mm is typically required to accommodate the components, though the exact requirement depends on the routing of mains cable. Refer to the installation manual in the Downloads tab for detailed clearance specifications.
Is the fitting dimmable during emergency operation?
No. Emergency lighting operates at fixed output during mains failure to comply with BS EN 60598-2-22 and ensure consistent illumination for safe evacuation. The 214 lumen output is non-adjustable when running on battery power.
