Description
The ESP Duceri is a 3W LED non-maintained emergency downlight kit with a self-test function that automatically verifies battery and LED status at set intervals. The fitting houses a high-power 3W LED behind an interchangeable lens—supplied with both open-area and corridor lens options—and runs from a 3.6V 1800mAh nickel-cadmium battery providing 3 hours of emergency illumination when mains power fails. The open lens delivers 147 lumens; the corridor lens delivers 138 lumens.
Non-maintained operation means the LED only illuminates during power failure, making this fitting suitable for escape routes, stairwells, corridors and fire exits in commercial, retail and residential buildings. The self-test function runs scheduled checks without manual intervention and uses a green LED indicator on the front face to signal charge status and any fault conditions. The IP44 rating allows installation in areas subject to moisture ingress such as bathroom corridors or covered external walkways.
The white polycarbonate housing measures 335mm wide by 230mm deep with a 65mm surface-mount depth, though a flush-mount kit is available separately for recessed installation. The fitting can be mounted on ceilings or walls and includes charge and discharge protection circuitry to extend battery life. Built-in compliance with BS EN 60598-2-22 and BS EN 62034 standards ensures the fitting meets UK emergency lighting regulations for commercial premises.
The 5500K colour temperature produces a cool white output that maintains visibility during emergency evacuation without adding warmth or colour cast to escape route signage. The fitting weighs 0.4kg and fits standard UK wiring with loop-in/loop-out terminals behind the housing for daisy-chained installation across multiple emergency points.

Frequently Asked
What does non-maintained mean?
Non-maintained operation means the LED only lights up when mains power fails. During normal operation the fitting remains dark and only the green indicator LED shows charge status. This differs from maintained fittings, which stay lit continuously and switch to battery during power failure.
How does the self-test function work?
The fitting runs automated tests at scheduled intervals to verify battery charge level and LED function. If a fault is detected, the green indicator LED changes state to signal the issue. This removes the need for manual monthly or annual testing required by non-self-test emergency lights.
What is the difference between the open and corridor lens?
The open lens spreads 147 lumens across a wider area for open-plan spaces, stairwells or large corridors. The corridor lens focuses 138 lumens into a narrower beam pattern for long narrow corridors or walkways where concentrated forward throw is needed.
Can this be recessed into the ceiling?
The standard fitting is surface-mount with a 65mm depth. A separate flush-mount kit is available from ESP to recess the fitting into ceiling voids where a cleaner profile is required.
