Description

The Dot is a rectangular recessed downlight housing two independently tiltable GU10 lamp holders in a white powder-coated aluminium frame. Each lamp can be angled within its aperture to direct light at different targets, allowing the fitting to illuminate two separate zones from a single ceiling cutout. The frame measures 173mm x 90mm and requires a ceiling void depth of at least 42mm plus bulb length.

Designed for use in kitchens, hallways, retail spaces and offices where directional accent or task lighting is required from a recessed position, the twin-tilt configuration allows one lamp to highlight a worktop or display while the other provides general downlight or wall-wash. The rectangular aperture suits linear ceiling layouts and works well when installed in rows along kitchen islands or corridor runs. Each GU10 socket accepts bulbs up to 50W, though LED GU10s between 4-7W are typical for most applications.

The white powder-coated aluminium construction resists discolouration from heat cycling and sits flush with plasterboard or suspended ceiling tiles once installed. The IP20 rating limits use to dry indoor environments — bathrooms and outdoor locations require higher-rated alternatives. The tilt mechanism uses a friction pivot that holds the lamp at the set angle without springs or locking clips, allowing adjustment after installation if lighting priorities change.

Frequently Asked

What bulbs does it take?

The Dot takes two GU10 bulbs, rated up to 50W each. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users fit LED GU10s between 4-7W for equivalent halogen brightness with lower energy consumption and heat output.

Can the lamps be angled after installation?

Yes. Each lamp holder tilts independently on a friction pivot, allowing the beam direction to be adjusted after the fitting is installed and bulbs are fitted. No tools are required to change the angle.

What ceiling void depth is required?

The frame depth is 42mm, but you must also allow space for the GU10 bulb length behind the ceiling. A typical LED GU10 is 50-60mm long, so a total void depth of at least 100mm is recommended for safe installation and adequate ventilation.

Is it suitable for bathrooms?

No. The IP20 rating means the fitting is not protected against moisture ingress and must only be used in dry indoor environments. For bathrooms, look for downlights rated IP44 or higher.
