Description
The Cricklade is a 350mm outdoor half lantern with a cast aluminium hexagonal frame finished in black with gold highlighting along the edges and raised details. Six clear glass panels surround a single E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately), and the unit mounts flush against exterior walls via a back plate with a projection of 112mm from the wall surface.
Designed for porches, front doors, garage sides and garden pathways where a traditional lantern style is wanted but a full pendant would project too far, the half-lantern format concentrates the light forward and downward rather than radiating in all directions. The IP44 rating protects the internal fitting from rain splash and dust ingress, making the lantern suitable for any sheltered or exposed exterior position in the UK. The clear glass allows full bulb visibility when lit and maximum light output without diffusion.
The black base coat with gold detailing creates contrast between the flat panel sections and the raised ribs, finial and bottom cap of the lantern body. The cast aluminium construction resists corrosion and handles thermal cycling better than pressed steel alternatives. At 350mm height and 198mm width, the Cricklade sits comfortably beside standard UK front doors without overwhelming narrow porches, and pairs well with Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian façades where a period lantern detail is wanted. The E27 socket accepts LED, halogen or filament bulbs up to 60W, giving control over colour temperature and brightness to suit the setting.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean?
IP44 means the lantern is protected against solid objects larger than 1mm (dust) and water splashing from any direction. This makes it suitable for sheltered and exposed exterior positions in typical UK weather, including rain and wind-driven moisture.
What bulb does it take?
The lantern takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K for a traditional porch lantern appearance.
Can it be mounted on brick or rendered walls?
Yes. The back plate fixes to the wall via mounting holes that accept standard wall plugs and screws suitable for brick, stone, render or timber. The 112mm projection means the lantern clears most standard door frames and window sills.
How is the black and gold finish applied?
The cast aluminium frame is powder-coated in black, then the raised ribs, edges and decorative details are hand-brushed or highlighted with gold to create the two-tone effect. The finish is sealed to resist UV fading and weathering.
