Description
The Core is a 5-metre length of 2-core flexible lighting cable with a clear PVC sheath and stranded copper conductors. The transparent insulation lets the cable blend against painted ceilings, white walls and pale plasterwork, making it suited to installations where the cable run will be visible rather than concealed inside trunking or above a ceiling line.
The cable is intended for re-wiring or extending the flex on pendant lights, wall sconces, table lamps and other decorative fittings. Each of the two stranded conductors carries one of the live and neutral connections to a single light source, so this cable is suitable for switched-line lighting circuits rather than three-core earthed metal fittings. Installation should be carried out by a competent person in line with current UK wiring regulations.
The 5-metre length gives enough flex to drop a pendant from a high ceiling, run cable down an exposed beam, or extend a table lamp lead to reach a more convenient socket. The clear PVC remains flexible at room temperature, allowing the cable to be coiled, looped through ceiling hooks, or routed alongside chain suspensions without kinking. Stranded copper cores stay pliable through repeated handling during installation.

Frequently Asked
How many cores does this cable have?
The cable has two stranded copper cores inside a clear PVC sheath, carrying live and neutral. It does not include a separate earth conductor, so it is suited to double-insulated (Class II) light fittings rather than earthed metal fittings that require a three-core flex.
Can the cable be cut to length?
Yes. The 5-metre length can be cut down on installation to suit shorter pendant drops or specific cable runs. Use cable cutters for a clean cut and strip the PVC carefully to avoid nicking the copper strands underneath.
Where is transparent cable typically used?
Clear cable is chosen where the flex will be visible against a pale background and a coloured fabric or PVC sheath would draw the eye. Common uses include pendants over kitchen islands and dining tables, exposed pendant clusters, and decorative cage or bare-bulb fittings where the flex itself forms part of the look.
Who should install it?
Mains lighting cable should be installed by a competent person familiar with UK wiring regulations. The supply must be isolated at the consumer unit before any work, and connections at the fitting and ceiling rose should be made into the correct terminals with strain relief in place.
