Description
The Chedworth is a 260mm cast aluminium outdoor wall lantern finished in bronze with clear seeded glass panels on all four sides. A single E27 bulb (sold separately, max 60W) sits inside the lantern housing, with light dispersed through the textured glass to create a diffused glow across paths, porches and entrance areas. The IP44 rating protects against solid objects over 1mm and water splashes from any direction, making it suitable for sheltered outdoor positions under eaves or canopies.
Designed for residential front doors, side entrances, garage approaches and courtyard walls, the Chedworth provides functional light while maintaining a traditional Arts and Crafts aesthetic. The 160mm projection from the wall means it clears most standard door frames and window casings without obstruction. The lantern mounts on a flat rectangular backplate measuring approximately 120mm wide, fixing to brick, rendered or timber external walls with screws through the backplate into wall plugs or timber.
The cast aluminium construction resists corrosion better than mild steel and holds the bronze finish against UV exposure and UK coastal conditions. The seeded glass texture hides the bulb filament or LED internals from direct view while still allowing enough light transmission for pathway illumination or doorstep security. The bronze finish sits between a dark chocolate brown and a warm metallic copper tone depending on ambient light, pairing with red brick, natural stone, rendered white walls and timber cladding across period, cottage and contemporary builds.

Frequently Asked
What does the IP44 rating mean for outdoor use?
IP44 protects against solid objects larger than 1mm and water splashes from any angle. This makes the Chedworth suitable for sheltered outdoor positions such as under eaves, canopies, or porch roofs where it will not face sustained heavy rain or standing water. It is not suitable for fully exposed positions without overhead cover.
What bulb should I use?
The lantern takes a standard E27 Edison screw bulb up to 60W. Most users fit a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K for a welcoming entrance light. Filament-style LED bulbs work well with the seeded glass if you want a vintage look. Bulbs are sold separately.
Can it be mounted on any wall surface?
The rectangular backplate fixes to brick, rendered, stone or timber external walls using screws through pre-drilled holes. On brick or masonry, use wall plugs rated for outdoor use. On timber cladding, fix directly into the timber with exterior-grade screws. Ensure the mounting surface is flat and capable of supporting the lantern weight.
Is the bronze finish weather-resistant?
Yes. The cast aluminium body is powder-coated in bronze, which resists UV fading and corrosion in typical UK weather conditions. Coastal environments with salt air may accelerate surface weathering over time, but the 3-year guarantee covers manufacturing defects and finish deterioration under normal outdoor use.
