Description
The Bingham is a 318mm solid brass outdoor wall lantern finished in sienna bronze, modelled after early 20th-century American gas lamp designs. The lantern body is built from four seeded glass panels held within a brass frame, topped with a peaked cap and mounted on a backplate that positions the lantern 165mm from the wall. A single E14 bulb inside the glass enclosure casts light through the seeded texture, creating dispersed patterns across doorways and porches.
Designed for porches, front doors and garage entries, the Bingham suits properties with traditional, colonial or coastal architectural details. The IP44 rating provides protection against splashing water from any direction, making the lantern suitable for UK external use under eaves or covered porch areas, though not for fully exposed positions without overhead shelter. The E14 candelabra socket accepts bulbs up to 60W (sold separately), allowing flexibility between vintage filament bulbs for decorative effect or LED equivalents for efficiency.
The solid brass construction ages naturally in outdoor conditions, developing a darker patina over time unless periodically cleaned. The sienna bronze factory finish is a warmed brown tone that sits between antique copper and weathered brass, pairing well with brown, tan and natural stone exteriors. The seeded glass panels are textured on the inside surface to diffuse the bulb whilst keeping the exterior smooth for easier cleaning. At 318mm tall and 121mm wide, the Bingham fits smaller wall spaces without overwhelming narrow doorways or half-height porch walls.

Frequently Asked
Is the Bingham suitable for fully exposed external walls?
The IP44 rating protects against splashing water from any direction, but not sustained driving rain or water jets. The lantern is best installed under eaves, porch roofs or other overhead shelter. Fully exposed coastal or hilltop positions may require IP65-rated fittings.
What bulb should I use?
The E14 candelabra socket accepts bulbs up to 60W. For traditional appearance, use a warm-white LED filament candle bulb (typically 4-6W, 2700K). For brighter functional light, a frosted E14 LED at 8-10W works well. Bulbs are sold separately.
Will the brass finish tarnish outdoors?
Solid brass develops a natural patina when exposed to weather, darkening over months to years depending on climate and exposure. The sienna bronze factory finish slows this process but does not prevent it entirely. To maintain the original finish tone, clean with a soft cloth and brass cleaner twice yearly.
What wall fixings are needed?
The backplate requires two fixings, typically screws and wall plugs suitable for the wall type (brick, stone, rendered block, timber cladding). The lantern weighs approximately 1.2kg, so standard 50mm masonry screws and plugs are adequate for brick or block walls.
