Description

The ESP Beacon assist call pull cord module is a BS8300-compliant emergency call device designed for accessible WC installations in commercial, healthcare and public buildings. The module comprises a brushed stainless steel faceplate housing a red braided pull cord with two plastic pull rings positioned at floor level and mid-height to accommodate wheelchair users and ambulant users with mobility impairments.

Installed in accessible WC cubicles, changing rooms and shower rooms, the module integrates with the ESP Beacon disabled assistance alarm system to summon help when the cord is pulled. The faceplate fits a standard single-gang mounting box (box not included), with options for both flush and surface mounting depending on wall construction. The 'Assist Call' label and wheelchair icon are moulded into the faceplate for permanent visibility.

The brushed stainless steel finish resists fingerprints and corrosion in humid environments, making it suitable for high-traffic washroom applications where the module is frequently touched or pulled. The red cord provides high visual contrast against typical washroom finishes to aid users with visual impairments. Compliance with BS8300 ensures the module meets current UK building regulations for accessible sanitary facilities.

Frequently Asked

What back box is required for installation?

The module fits a standard single-gang mounting box, either 25mm depth for flush mounting into plasterboard or stud walls, or a surface-mounted single-gang box for solid walls. The mounting box is not included and must be purchased separately.

Does this work as a standalone alarm?

No. The pull cord module is designed to integrate with the ESP Beacon disabled assistance alarm system. When the cord is pulled, it triggers the connected master panel to activate audible and visual alarms outside the WC and at a central monitoring point.

Is the cord replaceable?

Yes. The red pull cord and rings can be replaced if damaged or worn. Replacement cords are available separately from ESP or through Niori.

What is BS8300 compliance?

BS8300 is the British Standard for design of accessible and inclusive buildings. Compliance means the module meets requirements for pull cord positioning, visual contrast, labelling clarity and integration with emergency alarm systems in accessible sanitary facilities.
