Description
The Basic Form is a 15cm clear glass globe wall light mounted on a polished gold metal backplate. A single G9 bulb (sold separately, maximum 20W) sits inside a frosted inner globe that diffuses light while the outer clear glass sphere remains transparent, creating a layered effect. The 20.6cm projection from the wall gives the fitting a sculptural profile without extending too far into walkways.
Designed for hallways, bathrooms (IP20 rated for zone 3 only), bedrooms and stairwell landings where both functional and decorative light is needed, the Basic Form pairs well with mid-century, Art Deco and contemporary interiors. The compact 15cm diameter suits walls alongside mirrors, either side of doorways, or spaced at 1.5-2m intervals along corridors. The clear outer sphere shows the internal frosted globe and bulb as a visible design element, making the light source part of the aesthetic.
The polished gold finish on the metal backplate provides a warm metallic accent that works with brass hardware, gold-framed mirrors and warm-toned wood. The backplate diameter of approximately 10cm gives the fitting a proportioned base relative to the 15cm glass sphere. The clear and frosted glass combination directs some light forward while allowing scatter through the sphere, so the fitting works both as a reading light at bedside height and as ambient lighting at mid-wall or above-door-frame height.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Basic Form takes a single G9 capsule bulb up to 20W. G9 bulbs are available in halogen and LED versions — most users choose a warm-white LED between 2W-4W and 2700K-3000K for ambient use. Bulbs are sold separately.
Can it be used in bathrooms?
The IP20 rating means the fitting is suitable for bathroom zone 3 (areas more than 60cm from the bath or shower) but not for zones 1 or 2 where water spray is present. It works well alongside bathroom mirrors in dry areas.
Is the glass globe replaceable?
The outer clear glass sphere is a separate component from the inner frosted globe. If either is damaged, contact Maytoni or Niori for replacement parts — the fitting is not designed for the glass to be easily removed by the end user.
What height should it be mounted?
Typical mounting heights range from 1.4m-1.7m for corridor and hallway use (approximately eye-level or slightly above), and 1.0m-1.2m when used either side of a bathroom mirror. The 20.6cm projection should be considered in narrow hallways to avoid head clearance issues.
