Description
The Basic Colors is a 35cm diameter cone pendant light with a matt black metal shade suspended on a height-adjustable cable from a matching black ceiling canopy. The cone projects light downward through an E27 bulb fitting (bulb sold separately, max 40W), directing focused task lighting onto surfaces below while the black shade prevents upward glare.
Designed for installation over kitchen islands, dining tables and breakfast bars, the pendant works in rooms with ceiling heights between 2.4m and 3.5m. The drop adjusts from 38cm to 318cm on installation, allowing the shade to be positioned 600-800mm above a worktop or 700-900mm above a dining table depending on ceiling height. The 35cm diameter cone provides sufficient coverage for a single-pendant setup over compact dining tables (1m-1.4m length), or multiple pendants can be clustered in a row over longer islands.
The matt black finish on the metal shade pairs with contemporary, industrial and Scandi-minimalist interiors and coordinates with black metalwork in joinery, tap fittings and cabinet hardware. The cone geometry gives the pendant a mid-century profile without period-specific detailing, keeping it neutral across different schemes. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations only. The pendant accepts any E27 LED, halogen or filament bulb up to 40W, allowing choice of light temperature and brightness to suit the room.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The pendant takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 40W. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED bulb between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for dining or task lighting over kitchen islands.
Can the drop height be adjusted after installation?
The cable length is set during initial installation by trimming the excess and securing it inside the ceiling canopy. Once fitted, the drop cannot be adjusted without removing the canopy and re-wiring. Set the desired height before final fixing.
How many pendants are needed over a kitchen island?
For a single-pendant setup, the 35cm diameter suits compact tables and islands up to 1.4m in length. Islands between 1.8m-2.4m typically need two pendants spaced 600-800mm apart. Longer islands may require three or more.
Can it be used in a bathroom?
No. The IP20 rating restricts use to dry indoor locations only. It cannot be used in bathrooms, kitchens directly above hobs or sinks, or any outdoor or damp environment.
