Description
The Ascent is a 1.8m floor lamp built around a tapered four-sided steel column in polished nickel, topped with a black hard-backed silk shade. The column tapers from a 460mm square base to approximately 120mm at the neck, creating a pyramid profile that anchors the lamp visually without requiring additional weighting. The polished nickel finish is hand-buffed to a mirror shine, reflecting ambient light and metallic tones from the surrounding room.
Designed for living rooms, bedrooms and hallways where vertical space allows, the Ascent provides ambient lighting through the black silk shade, which diffuses the E27 bulb output into soft wash light rather than direct task lighting. The 1810mm height suits rooms with standard 2.4m ceilings, placing the shade at approximately head height when standing. The 460mm square footprint fits into corners, behind sofas, or flanking media units without occupying the circulation path.
The black silk shade is stretched over a rigid drum frame and finished with a nickel-plated harp and finial that match the column below. The shade fabric is textured rather than smooth, which hides minor dust accumulation and provides visual contrast against the mirror-polished metal. The column itself is hollow steel rather than solid, keeping the overall weight manageable for repositioning while maintaining rigidity under the shade's cantilevered load.

Frequently Asked
What bulb does it take?
The Ascent takes a standard E27 (Edison screw) bulb up to 60W maximum. Bulbs are sold separately. Most users pair this with a warm-white LED between 6-10W and 2700K-3000K for ambient lighting through the black silk shade.
What ceiling height is needed?
The 1810mm total height works in rooms with standard 2.4m ceilings, placing the shade at approximately 1.8m from the floor. In rooms with lower ceilings below 2.3m the lamp may feel too tall; in rooms with ceilings above 2.7m the lamp may appear undersized unless grouped with other furnishings.
How is the polished nickel maintained?
The polished nickel column shows fingerprints and dust easily due to its mirror finish. Wipe with a soft microfibre cloth regularly to maintain the shine. For smudges, a barely-damp cloth followed immediately by a dry buff is acceptable. Avoid abrasive cleaners or metal polishes that can scratch the plating.
Is the shade removable for bulb changes?
Yes. The shade lifts off the harp by unscrewing the finial at the top. This allows bulb access without tools. The harp itself remains fixed to the lamp column.
