Description

The Aethera is a 16cm cylinder lampshade built on a fireproof PVC frame and wrapped in black fabric. The cylinder shape measures 165mm in diameter and stands approximately 150mm tall, designed to fit standard E14 and E27 table lamp bases where the shade clips or slides onto the fitting rather than being hard-wired into a ceiling rose.

The shade suits bedside table lamps, desk lamps and small console table lamps where a compact shade is needed to balance the proportions of the base. The black fabric absorbs light on the outside while the white PVC inner lining reflects light downward and upward through the open ends of the cylinder, giving functional task light without glare at eye level when seated.

The fabric outer has a fine weave that softens the appearance of the shade under daylight and prevents the bulb outline showing through when lit. The fireproof PVC frame provides structural rigidity and meets EU fire safety standards for domestic lampshades, allowing safe use with LED, halogen or low-wattage incandescent bulbs within the fitting's rated limits. The black tone pairs with chrome, brass, black metal and wood lamp bases.

The Aethera fits standard E14 and E27 table lamp bases where the shade holder is either a clip-on ring around the bulb or a slide-on carrier that sits on the lamp neck. It is not designed for ceiling pendants or hard-wired fittings.

What wattage bulb can be used?

The shade is rated for use with bulbs up to the maximum wattage specified by the lamp base manufacturer. Most table lamp bases accommodate LED bulbs of 6-15W or halogen bulbs up to 40W. Check the lamp base rating before fitting.

Does the shade block light or diffuse it?

The black fabric absorbs light on the outer surface, so most of the illumination exits through the open top and bottom of the cylinder. The white PVC inner lining reflects light efficiently through these openings, making the shade suitable for task lighting rather than ambient room lighting.

Can the fabric be cleaned?

Dust the fabric gently with a soft brush or lint roller. For marks, a barely-damp microfibre cloth can be used sparingly, but avoid soaking the fabric or using sprays and cleaners as these may stain or degrade the fireproof treatment on the PVC frame.
