Description

The Knightsbridge 45A DP switch is a single-gang double-pole isolator designed for controlling electric cookers, hobs and ranges up to 45A (10.35kW at 230V). The red rocker switch includes a neon indicator that illuminates when the circuit is live, confirming power to the connected appliance. The polished chrome faceplate uses a rounded edge design with a built-in gasket seal behind the plate.

Installed as the primary isolation point for a cooker circuit, the switch allows the appliance to be safely powered down for cleaning, maintenance or repairs without needing to switch off the circuit breaker at the consumer unit. The double-pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines when turned off, providing full electrical isolation. The switch can control a single high-draw cooker or multiple lower-draw cooking appliances on the same circuit provided the combined load stays within the 45A rating.

The polished chrome finish provides a reflective metallic accent that pairs well with modern kitchens, particularly alongside stainless steel appliances and chrome fixtures. The rounded edge design sits slightly proud of the wall surface with minimal projection, and the built-in gasket behind the plate prevents dust ingress around the edges. The switch requires a minimum 47mm back box depth and is certified to EN 60669-1 for UK residential and commercial installation.

Frequently Asked

What appliances can this switch control?

The 45A rating handles electric cookers, hobs and ranges up to 10.35kW at 230V. This includes most domestic electric cookers. The switch can also control two or more lower-draw cooking appliances on the same circuit provided the combined load does not exceed 45A.

What does the neon indicator show?

The neon illuminates when the circuit is live and the switch is in the on position. This confirms that power is being supplied to the connected appliance. When the switch is off, the neon goes dark, indicating that the appliance is fully isolated.

What back box depth is required?

A minimum 47mm back box depth is needed for safe installation. The switch plate projects 7.5mm from the wall surface once fitted.

Is this a screwless design?

No. The rounded edge polished chrome design uses visible fixing screws. For a screwless finish, see the Knightsbridge screwless range in other finishes.
