Description

The Knightsbridge 13A switched fused spur unit provides double pole switching for fixed appliances such as extractor fans, boilers, water heaters and hard-wired kitchen equipment. The unit combines a rocker switch with a fuse holder behind a matt black rounded-edge faceplate, with a neon indicator showing when the circuit is live.

Installed in kitchens, utility rooms, garages and bathrooms (outside zones), the fused spur allows an appliance to be isolated without switching off a whole circuit at the consumer unit. The double pole switching isolates both live and neutral lines, providing additional safety over single-pole switching for high-draw appliances. The screw terminals accept standard cable sizes and the unit fits a 25mm minimum back box depth.

The matt black finish is applied to premium-grade steel with rounded edges that reduce the visual bulk of the plate compared to sharp-edged designs. The matching rocker and fuse holder maintain a consistent finish across the face. The built-in gasket compresses against the back box on installation to prevent plaster dust ingress and provide a clean edge where the plate meets the wall. Certified to BS 1363-4 with IP20 rating and backed by a 25-year warranty.

Frequently Asked

What is a fused spur used for?

A fused spur provides a switched and fused connection for a fixed appliance such as an extractor fan, electric heater, boiler or hard-wired cooker hood. It allows the appliance to be isolated without switching off the entire circuit at the consumer unit. The fuse inside the unit protects the appliance cable from overload.

What does double pole switching mean?

Double pole switching isolates both the live and neutral conductors when the switch is turned off, providing complete circuit isolation. This is safer than single-pole switching (which only isolates the live) for appliances that draw high current or remain permanently connected.

What fuse rating should I use?

The fuse rating depends on the appliance load. Most extractor fans, cooker hoods and small heaters use a 3A or 5A fuse. Larger appliances such as electric heaters or instantaneous water heaters may require a 13A fuse. Check the appliance specification or installation manual for the correct fuse rating.

Can this be used in a bathroom?

The IP20 rating means the unit is suitable for dry indoor locations only. In bathrooms it must be installed outside the defined zones (typically 3m+ from a bath or shower enclosure) and must not be within reach of someone using the bath or shower. For bathrooms, consider positioning the fused spur outside the bathroom door to control an extractor fan inside.
