An opal ball turned with a twisted flute, the ribs spiralling from the collar round to the base so the glass reads as a series of soft diagonal bands. The white is warm and the ribs are rounded rather than sharp, so the pattern shows as shading rather than as edges. A small antique brass cap sits over the top of the ball and a slim brass stem rises from it into a plain black flex. The ball is a full sphere with no visible opening. The glass is thick enough to hide the lamp entirely. It measures 25cm across.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt suits a table, an island or a hallway, hung low enough to be looked at rather than into. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it.
