A large round cage woven from fine pale bamboo, the vertical ribs bowing out round the belly and drawn in to plain woven bands at the top and the bottom, with a wider band round the middle. Nothing is enclosed, so the lamp inside shows through the gaps and throws a pattern of fine vertical lines. A turned brass collar and a large open brass ring sit above the cage where the black flex enters. The bamboo is left its natural pale straw colour and this is the largest of its form. It measures 50cm across and the same in height, in wood and brass.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.
