A wide, very shallow black disc that flares out almost flat and turns down at its rim, with a small crown of brass fins at its centre standing above the face. A polished brass ball hangs directly beneath the disc, catching the light bounced off the underside and glowing warm. The disc shields the lamp completely from above, so what reaches the room comes off it and off the ball. A slim brass stem rises to a plain black flex. The disc is very wide and the whole fitting reads as a hovering plate. It measures 46cm across.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe LED is built in at 24W, so there is no bulb to buy and none to fit.
