A cylinder of antique brass with two bands of fine knurling, one round the shoulder and one round the foot, and a plain brushed band between them. A short tapered cone rises from the flat top where the flex enters. The brass is brushed to a soft aged gold, with the knurled bands catching the light as fine texture against the smooth middle. There is no shade and no shade ring, so whatever lamp is fitted is the whole of what is seen. It is heavy and deliberate in the hand rather than a plain working part.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt is the part everything else is built around: a shade goes over it, a flex runs into it, and the lamp you choose sets how the light reads. It is a part rather than a finished fitting, so it is bought alongside whatever it is going to carry or connect to rather than on its own.
