The wax keeps the marks of the mould and of its own cooling: shallow craters over the sides, a pale bloom drawn across them, and a top that sits a little higher on one side than the other. A single white wick stands at the centre of the pour.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTen centimetres across makes this a wide pillar, and at 18cm it stands a head taller than the small one in the same colour. It was made for the generously sized candle holders, the ones with a wide dish rather than a socket. On its own it takes the middle of a laid table, a mantelpiece or a sideboard without needing anything beside it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eSoy blend wax, poured by hand into moulds in small batches in India by local makers. The pitted face is what the pour leaves rather than a finish worked in later, so no two candles carry the same pattern of craters and bloom.
