The surface is left rough: craters, pits and dragged marks run right around the wall, with a chalky pale grey caught in the low points against the darker charcoal around them. It has a flat top and one wick at the centre, and it stands on its own without a holder.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 10cm across it is both the wider and the taller of the two Rustic pillars; the small one is 15 by 8cm. That extra bulk makes it the one to stand alone on a mantelpiece or a hall table where a single candle has to carry the space, rather than one of a run of three. It was proportioned for holders built to take a larger candle, so it drops into a pillar holder rather than one cut for a dinner candle.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe wax is a soy and paraffin blend, hand poured into moulds in small batches in India, and the broken surface is what comes out of the mould rather than anything worked into it afterwards.
