The top is dished, with a raised rim round the edge that turns it into a shallow tray. Each leg is a flat blade, widest where it meets the underside of the top and drawn to a fine point at the floor. The whole piece is finished in brass, and the cast surface is left pitted and uneven rather than worked smooth, so the brass reads bright on the high points and darker in the pits.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 45cm the top sits about level with the arm of an armchair, and the raised rim means a glass set down on it will not travel if the table is knocked. At 37cm across it stands beside a single chair rather than between two. It is sand cast: a mould is formed in compacted sand, molten aluminium is poured in and covered until it cools, and then the baked sand is broken open to release the casting.
