The base takes the bottom third of the height and is cast aluminium under a brass finish, left rough from the casting so the surface is pitted and grainy all over rather than even. The glass is seeded with small bubbles and sits down inside the rim of the base, which forms the floor the candle stands on.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 26cm this is the smaller of the two Rajura lanterns; the other stands 31cm. It takes a church pillar candle, which stands with its flame well below the top of the glass. On a dining table a lantern this tall stands in the line of sight across it, so a mantelpiece, a hearth, a windowsill or a hall shelf suits it better. The texture comes from the casting, which is done to leave the surface imperfect rather than even, so no two bases carry quite the same grain and the brass tone sits deeper in some than in others.
