The flex enters through a small brass collar on the handle and then loops down loosely into the body, left deliberately slack. Two small brass pivots mark where the handle meets the dish. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it.
