A single stem rises from a shallow round foot and divides into branches that curve out and up, each one ending in a cup. The five cups sit at five different heights with the centre one highest, and the two sides are not mirror images of each other, so the outline is uneven rather than a symmetrical fan. The branches are slender and smooth, the cups are faceted in shallow planes, and the foot is left rough from the casting.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 53cm tall this is a centrepiece for a dining or console table, and it carries the flames well above the eye line of anyone sitting at it. The branches span 27cm across but only 14cm front to back, so it occupies a narrow strip down the middle of a table and leaves the settings either side of it clear. Molten metal is poured into a cavity packed in sand and left to cool, then the cast is broken out of the sand to release the shape, which is why the foot and the branches carry the marks of it.
