One side of the rim is drawn out into a pouring lip, and a thick clear handle is applied from just under the rim and curves down to about two thirds of the height. It holds 2250ml. The base is flat and the glass thickens towards it, taking on a faint grey-green cast where it is deepest.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e2250ml is a little over two litres, which fills nine tumblers, so one jug covers a table laid for six without going back to the tap. At 23cm it stands well above the glasses around it and is tall enough to read as the centre of a laid table rather than something to be moved out of the way. The ribbing breaks the light passing through, so water in it throws a broken pattern on the table rather than a flat one, and the flutes give a grip on a jug that gets wet on the outside.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe glass is recycled, hand blown by makers working in the traditional way: waste glass is collected, washed to take out impurities, crushed and melted down before it is blown into a new shape.
