The rim is worked in short chiselled facets rather than turned smooth, so the outline is faintly irregular and the light breaks along it. The wood is finished dark, deep enough to read as a grey brown, with the figure of the grain running right across the floor of the tray.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 40.5cm this is a large tray: it takes a pair of candlesticks and two or three glasses together, or carries a jug and cups from a kitchen into another room. The 3cm rim is enough to stop a glass sliding off the edge and low enough to lift things out over it, and the floor is flat, so nothing tilts.
