A smoked glass ball pressed all over with a deep diamond cut, the facets small and regular so the surface breaks into hundreds of points. The tint is a soft grey, clear enough that the lamp inside shows through as a bright core and the cut throws the light out in fine sparks. A small black cap closes the top and carries a plain black flex. The ball is drawn in slightly at the top where it meets the cap, and left open at the bottom. Unlit it reads as smoked crystal against the wall behind it. It measures 22cm across and 20cm tall.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIt suits a table, an island or a hallway, hung low enough to be looked at rather than into. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.
