A small smoked glass ball pressed all over with a deep diamond cut, the facets tiny and regular so the surface breaks into hundreds of points. The tint is a soft grey, clear enough that the lamp inside shows through as a bright core and the cut throws the light out in fine sparks. A small black cap closes the top and carries a plain black flex. The ball is drawn in slightly at the top where it meets the cap, and left open at the bottom. Unlit it reads as smoked crystal against the wall behind it. It measures 12cm across and the same in height, in glass.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eA shade this small works better in a run of two or three over an island than alone in the middle of a ceiling, where it reads as an accent rather than the main light. Hang it so the bottom of the shade sits about 80cm above the surface, a little higher if people walk beneath it rather than sit under it. Hung at that height the shade is read as an object in the room rather than as a source, and the light lands on the table instead of in the eyes of the people round it.
