The body is an oval trough with a rim that rises along the long sides and dips at the ends, and a short flat handle runs out from each end and finishes in a rounded paddle. The inside is scooped out in facets, so the gouge marks the carver left are still visible across the well. The wood is a warm honey tan with darker grain sweeping through it.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eAt 38cm long and only 7.5cm deep, this is a shallow bowl for putting food down in front of people rather than for tossing or mixing: bread torn into it, fruit, olives, a handful of tomatoes.
