mega-edison-glass-bulb-clear
Mega Edison Glass Bulb - Clear

Description

This is a large globe bulb in clear glass, 12.5cm across and 17.5cm tall, finished with a brass screw cap. Through the glass you can see the whole of its inner workings: a slim glass stem rising from the cap and, around it, fine filament strips that cross one another in a loose lattice. Because the globe is clear rather than frosted, those filaments are the point of the bulb, and they read like a small line drawing even when the light is off. It is a bulb made to be seen rather than hidden.

It belongs wherever the bulb is on show: a bare pendant on a fabric flex, a wall light with an open cage, or a table lamp without a shade. Over a dining table or a desk it gives the room a single point of interest, and in a hallway or on a landing it makes a plain ceiling rose look deliberate. It suits rooms with exposed brick, timber or metal fittings, and it sits as comfortably in a pared back modern space where one clear globe does the work of a light fitting. If you plan to use it inside a shade, measure first: at 12.5cm across and 17.5cm tall, it needs a shade with room to clear the glass on every side.

The globe is glass and the cap is brass, a pairing that sits well with brass lamp holders and plain metal fittings. The filament strips are held at top and bottom on fine wire supports fixed to the central glass stem. At 0.105KG it is light in the hand. Check the fitting your lamp holder takes against the screw cap before you order. For styling, hang several at staggered heights over a long table, or let a single bulb drop low in the corner of a room on a long flex.

Specification

Height

17.5cm

Diameter

12.5cm

Material

Brass, Glass

Colour

Clear

Weight

0.105KG

Frequently Asked

What is the bulb made of?

The globe is clear glass and the screw cap is brass, with fine filament strips held on a central glass stem inside.

How big is this globe bulb?

It is 12.5cm across and 17.5cm tall, a large globe, so allow room for it inside any shade or cage you plan to use.

Is the glass clear or frosted?

The glass is clear, so the crossed filament strips and the central glass stem stay fully visible whether the bulb is on or off.

How much does it weigh?

It weighs 0.105KG, light enough to handle easily when you fit it into a pendant, a wall light or a table lamp.

What kind of light fitting suits it?

It suits fittings that leave the bulb on show, such as a bare pendant on a fabric flex, an open cage wall light or a table lamp without a shade.
